- The cubic space the heater has to bring to heat and hold there. It is the starting point for every recommendation.
- Glass area
- Windows and a glass door give heat back to the outside, so a room with more glass asks more of its heater than an identical room without it.
- Climate
- How cold the surrounding air runs, and how hard an outdoor room's exposure works against it across a season.
- Placement
- Indoor, outdoor, or under cover changes how much of the room's heat is fighting the world around it.
- Ritual preference
- How hot you want the room, how fast you want it there, and whether you want the classic column of heat off the stones or something softer and more even.

What is the difference between an electric and a wood-fired heater?
An electric heater's electrical work is coordinated through licensed electricians as part of your project. A wood-fired heater runs through a professionally installed chimney kit and asks for a different kind of site: clearances, ventilation, and a place to keep the wood. Both get the room hot.
