- The weather is not the constraint here
- Southern California removes the two forces that dominate our other markets. There is no hard freeze and thaw cycle to design around and no deep winter to protect against. Practically, that widens what we can reasonably specify. Configurations and glass treatments we would think twice about in Colorado are sensible here, and an outdoor unit can live in a much lighter setting than it could on the Front Range.
- Coastal salt air is the real exposure
- Within reach of the water, from Malibu and Santa Monica down through Newport Beach and Laguna Beach to Del Mar, La Jolla, Encinitas, and Carlsbad, salt is what works on a build. It goes after fasteners, hardware, and finishes well before it goes after wood. We specify and protect for it, and we tell you what the rinse and maintenance rhythm looks like rather than pretending marine air is neutral.
- Inland is a different site entirely
- Temecula, Rancho Cucamonga, and the Inland Empire run hotter and drier, with real sun load and no marine layer to take the edge off in the afternoon. Placement, shade, and orientation carry more weight here than anywhere else we work. Where a coastal project protects hardware from salt, an inland project protects finish and comfort from sun.
- Placement is a design decision
- In Los Angeles, Orange County, and coastal San Diego, the sauna will be seen from the primary living space, often at night, often as the only lit object in the yard. It has to belong. We work backwards from sightlines, from the materials already on the property, and from how the room reads after dark, then select a unit that answers that. Design-led projects usually lead to a thermally modified room from Thermory, and frequently to a HUUM Hive heater where the heater is part of the room rather than equipment inside it.
- Access is the recurring problem
- Santa Monica, Pasadena, and the Westside canyons present the same situation: an excellent location for a sauna and no straightforward way to get a crate to it. Malibu and Calabasas add distance and grade on top. Access planning belongs in the consultation, and it is the thing most often skipped when a sauna arrives as freight and nothing else.
